Which cartoon has slipped in quality the most since its premiere?

I keep hearing that recent episodes of Spongebob are actually good.

Spongebob and it isn't much of a contest. The first hundred episodes are gold, but I actually had to stop watching it after the movie and after the original writer left.

The first episode of The Simpsons, and especially the shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show, were not that good.

The Simpsons. The answer to this question is always The Simpsons. No TV show in history has reached such heights and fallen to such depths before.

Technically SpongeBob because it had a great first episode and first season so the drop off from premiere to now (or several years ago the last time I saw it) is much worse.
The Simpsons took some time to gain traction and peak, however the Simpsons reached greater heights than SpongeBob ever did and overall had the greatest drop off.

The Simpsons is still good in my opinion. They may not be as good as they were in the golden era but there are still great moments in every episode.

I don't even recognise any of the characters anymore. Like they look the same, and they have the same voices, but I swear to god reptiles have taken over their likeness or something.

I dunno if I'd go that far tbh. Other shows have had to deal with major cast members leaving and bizarre, season long plot lines.

Even bad Simpsons is generally at least watchable. Just no where near as good as the peak.

That's true, although it's just hard to consolidate this with the fact that once upon a time The Simpsons was the greatest show on tv. It was such an important part of growing up in the 90s.

Now it's just like what, slightly worse than most other animated shows that are popular, with occasional decent parts. I grieve.

The Simpsons.

Spongebob is still the same show, just stupider now.
The Simpsons genuinely feels like a show that doesn't remember what made it popular in the first place. And it's stupider now.
