Found that out the hard way on like my second or third tutorial mission. One dropped down from the sky and immediately overwatched right next to my most experienced unit. Which was fine, just hunkered down til I could get backup over there

Nah, next turn thin man picked him off while being hunkered down AND behind half cover. GG. Totally my fault for letting him get shot up before that tho, I misread some positioning and thought he was behind cover. NOPE, half his HP gone

Thin Men use Light Plasma Rifles, which has a +10 Accuracy modifier. Don't expect them to lose much.

Skipping the tutorial actually isn't a bad idea. Or just starting over after doing it. Not so big a deal on lower difficulties, but the tutorial definitely does restrict some of your options in the beginning.

it restricts some of your options but iirc it also gives you an extra satellite or something

Well I know you get a free starter satellite regardless of whether you have the tutorial on or not. I think the tutorial may even force you to place it somewhere, though I could be wrong on that.

I think Africa is usually considered the best because of money. North America and Asia always seemed pretty good too.
