I guess I like the SNES version better.

Listen to :15 on the Genesis version. It's that kind of high-pitch that I dislike from the system. TO BE FAIR, however, I am aware that a lot of games DON'T have that kind of pitch and I do enjoy game music from Sonic, Phantasy Star and Streets of Rage 2 but even they have that very specific Genesis 'sound'.

Somebody else in the topic described technically very well the difference between the two so I now understand why each system sounds like they do. I have nothing against the Genesis' sound and do like quite a number of games on the console, but for aforementioned reasons I'll always prefer the SNES.

I see.

Though I loved playing Sonic 2 and Sonic & Knuckles on my friend's genesis when I went over (he didn't have Sonic 1 or Sonic 3 lol)

I'd played the NES at the daycare I went to, so I asked my parents for a SNES. My best friend had a genesis so I got to play both.

I had Genesis first because games like Mortal Kombat and Robocop vs Terminator had more blood and gore. I got the SNES a couple years later for my birthday.

General Chaos, Altered Beasts and Mutant Football League for Genesis

Paperboy, Killer Instinct, WWF Royal Rumble for SNES

Those are ones I remember

**other than the Sonics, Mortal Kombat and other very known games already mentioned**

I got a snes first because super mario world, street fighter 2, star fox, zelda a link to the past, beat the shit out of anything that was on genesis.

I did eventually get a genesis later on when the price dropped to $100, solely for sonic 1 through 4.

We somehow wound up with a Sega Master System so we just upgraded to the Genesis when it came out. Also it came out first.

A few years later, I saved up my allowance/bday money to get a SNES.

Overall, I enjoyed my SNES more since I love jrpgs. The Genesis had some too, but Square was a powerhouse at the time.

I didn't, my parents bought an SNES when I was like 3. Probably because my sister had an NES.

They made the right choice, though. My cousin moved in with us when I was like 4 and brought his Genesis and I always thought most of the games on it were crapola.

my sister talked me into sega, I wanted SNES at first, but after Sega Channel I was glad I made the choice.

Also I think I played the X-Men game on Sega at Sears or a friends house or some shit and wanted it because it had the dope X-men game.

I was a NES kid so it was a logical progression to get a SNES to play the next Mario and Zelda games.

One of my best friends had a Genesis though, so still got to play a load of those great games as well.

I had a Genesis at my mom's house and a SNES at my dad's.

Had a similar situation the next gen, where I had an N64 at my mom's and a PS1 at my dad's.

no sir, if you had the sega channel you would not agree with this, unless you could afford like every game in the SNES library. As a kid I had limited funds and rental places didn't have as much of a selection, plus it wasn't like 30+ games at a time.

As a kid, I remember wanting the snes just because of how much I liked the regular nes. Managed to get a snes on release because of that. In the long run I loved it, because most of the snes rpgs and platformers were really good.

My older brother got a genesis like two years later after we got a snes, so we still got to play the best genesis games regardless. (that rocket knight adventures, shining force 2, and phantasy star 4....good times).

I also agree with the poster that said they didn't care for the genesis' sound chip....I am the same way, lol. Don't get me wrong, devs that worked on genesis exclusives definitely knew how to get the best out of the hardware, like with sonic 2/3/knunckles, golden axe 3, streets of rage 2, phantasy star 4, shining force 2, but then you got to some of those third party games and its like, the snes version tend to man-handle the genesis when it comes to the music for those games. Off the top of my head, battletoads and double dragons tends to be one of those extreme examples:

Like one of the comments for the genesis version stated, it sounded like they were sampling a cat at about the 0:30 mark on the genesis version, lmfao.

you couldn't rent 30+ games at once, and I con't afford a collection that big that rotated every month

but overall I think SNES has the better library, but I absolutely love sonic 1-3&k though, even the Knuckles game on 32x (I wanted to have a good version of DOOM on console and 32x had a dirt bike road rash style game and it was $15 when I got it).
