It was shot beautifully and really did an amazing job at making Derry really feel like a podunk Maine town (I live in a podunk Maine town). I liked the kids well enough though as far as acting goes Beverly was the best. Hate how the fat kid got snubbed romantically for Leon haircut kid.

The imagery was good too. Pennywise was pretty creepy, especially Hebrew kid's scream face. The Leper looked really dumb though.

The movie fell into a lot of dumb horror movie trappings, including slow pans with obvious jump scares, that awful horror movie music and sound, I can't really describe it but they use it a lot.

The non-scary music was good though. Somebody mentioned the quarry swim scene here and I agree that it was a really great mix of music and cinematography. I wish the movie kept more of that subdued atmosphere.

Overall I'd give movie a solid 7. Infinitely better than the 90s miniseries. Great Pennywise, too.

I'm confused about jumpscares.

For me, I hate when they are surprise and shit. It's cheap, having them telegraphed is good because it makes me uneasy, and best of all I don't have to feel dumb and jump from it.

I think most horror movies are shit because of shitty jumpscares, but I really liked this one since there was that creep factor, and it did scare me and fuck me up once and I didn't expect that.

I dunno what people want with scares honestly.

Also Eddie was best of the boys.

I like a jump scare when it actually scares me. The whole slow lead up to them frustrates me. Also, I'm looking for atmosphere first and foremost when it comes to horror. A creepy mood is much more lasting than a jump scare.

For me that's quality. If a jumpscare comes out of nowhere, it's cheap and all I do is react to LOUD SOUND AND IMAGERY and not be scared for real. It's the reason why most horror movies today suck because it's just about that and not actually creepy and scary.

I didn't jump, but it was scary as hell, it fucked me up. And I knew he was coming out, just had no idea it was in that scale, I felt claustrophobic and it felt like IT came out of the screen.

I agree. I personally want more horror done akin to "the strangers".

Well, yeah. Books are such an intimate medium with infinite time and space for ideas and growth. I can't think of a book movie where I liked the movie better.
