Society was the monster in that story They were. But the creature was definitely a monster by the time he revealed himself. Tbh thats what makes the story so interesting. societys ignorance and irrational hatred transforms a strange, but innocent being into a monster. And the cycle of fear and hatred following that transformation that leads to even more terrible things. I feel that story is relevant in todays world too.
