You know dreaming when you sleep? Do you think they have a purpose? Supposedly scientists have been unable to determine what evolutionary purpose they have or had, if they have any at all. What do you think?

Simulations, ostensibly in preparation for real life. Same as your normal thoughts and plans, only less constrained because you're not conscious.

NPR had scientists explain why people have dreams in one minute or less. Basically it's the mind attempting an information dump... or a defrag, as others have more adequately put it.
