Specifically Final Fantasy V? I'm starting it up again, and noticed all the other save files on the game that came with it since I bought it used, and was wondering if it's possible to just wipe the data. Does anyone know of a way, or am I just gonna have to learn to live alongside these save files?

Isn't there a new game option? Surely you can start a new file and then overwrite one of the others at a save point

I've already started a new game, but didn't get far into it. And I know I can save over other data obviously, but I wanted to know if I could erase the other data. Them being there just emphasizes to me that my game is used. ;_; Hence, "or am I just gonna have to learn to live alongside these save files?" I'm guessing I am, Google's coming up with no tricks or anything.

Remove the batteries.

Wait, for future reference, does just removing the batteries erase save data?

If the batteries are dead or removed, so are the save data.

So, wait, does that mean the save data will always have a time limit before it dies? I can't replace the batteries or anything before they die?

Pretty much. Those batteries last a looooong time though, some of my old SNES carts' batteries still haven't died

It's relatively straightforward to replace the battery in SNES cart, just a bit of soldering required in some that have a fixed holder mounted (the design changed over the years). Yes, they will all eventually die otherwise.

Did you ever see that Seinfeld episode where George tried to keep a Frogger machine plugged in so that he wouldn't lose his high score? Same idea.

The way saves worked in older games required constant electricity in order for memory to remain stored.

Just save over all of them with a new game.

It annoys me that there's any save files there at all. Saving over all of them isn't gonna make the game feel any "newer" to me. Similarly, when I played FFI & II Dawn of Souls on the GBA, and I accidentally saved in slot 3, it bugged the hell out of me because now what should have been a normally empty save file had a useless file that shouldn't be there at all.

It's a legitimate cause for concern. ¬_¬
