After listening to the video, it is rather weird how people just say the N-Word with a hard "er" out of anger when it is not directed towards a black person.

Like I am a black person who uses the N-Word with an "a" all the time and I never use the "er" version.

A couple of black kids and a white one that was in another class of mine in my wood shop class tried to befriend me and after a month the topic came up and they said it was okay so I said the typical "what up" phrase. Next thing I know I'm getting punched in the face and hit a few times with a 2x4.

The only reason shit didn't get taken any further was because the class assistant broke it up. The only reason I was able to keep my reputation in tact was because the white kid was recording the whole thing and the school has a policy of temporarily confiscating phones for video evidence.

If true, this is bullshit. I hope they got the worst possible punishment for fucking with you.

I remember I worked with some rednecks a few years ago. They referred to everyone as N-words. Hard R. Each other, other white guys, hispanics, black people, asians, etc. Just everyone. It was a bit disconcerting at first to hear it said so liberally and out of the context you'd expect. Granted, some of them were explicitly racist.

You're saying that the word itself is racist and not the context where it is used to demean people of a certain race. If it doesn't matter if you say the n-word in a bout of gamer rage or directly to a black person to insinuate your disgust with their person, what's the point of distinguishing between the two situations?

What an amazingly counter-productive approach to battle racism to give that much power to a word and then waste all your energy fighting against the power you've just given it instead of allocating that energy to fighting the sentiment in the second example.
