Well, it's definitely top 2. I might give the other spot to nier automata.

I prefer Automata and Bloodborne, but TW3 is still in my top five for this gen

Ps1/n64/Saturn gen was significantly worse. We only remember the highlights, but there was a significant amount of dog shit for it. Games have gotten consistently better, we just have nostalgia goggles on.

The DLC was pretty good. The game itself got tedious after about a dozen hours.

That's literally not even the halfway point. The first area after the prologue area is definitely the worst area. The two expansions are downright flawless though.

yeah. how can a game that becomes tedious before the halfway point be GOAT? And I think Skellige was probably a worse area anyways because the climbing mechanics were shit and those mountains were annoying

Tedious is subjective however, like this entire topic. The game had me hooked the whole way, even did a new game plus run.

You didn't need to climb any mountains though. Just stick to the trails and you'll get anywhere you need to go. Plus you can buy the maps with fast travel points so you don't even need to mess with the sailing.

the thing is that back then there were a lot of absolute shit games, but there were also a handful of classics that changed gaming forever. Zelda OoT and MM, Mario 64, Metal Gear Solid, FF7 and 9, etc.

nowadays most big games are average and acceptable but not great. Only games that I think people would consider classics this gen are maybe Witcher 3 (I didn't care for it but see why people love it), Dark Souls 3, and Bloodborne.

the rest are games that are flashy and cool but ultimately forgettable or not "great" (like Uncharted 4 or Fallout 4) or games where they're amusing to play but as soon as the next version comes out they're obsolete (yearly installments of Battlefield, Mortal Kombat, etc).

Lots of games have changed gaming forever, in all gens, though not always for the better.

I think the thing to me is that gaming hadn't yet gotten to teh point where AAA games cost billions of dollars. So you actually did see more diversity in the console market in terms fo developers and publishers putting out a variety of games. I'd say that still happens, but it's moved to Steam and console games aren't really like that any more

Lmao witcher 3 haters. The reason the game is so loved because of how it handles it's world, characters, and story.

It has the most well developed world of any rpg ever made. It feels alive, the side quests have actual story to them, the story is exceptionally well written, and th3 characters believable.

It harkens back to the old school days of bioware rpgs like Baldur gate 2 and planescape torment.

If you go into it and aren't a fan of essentially playing through a season of game of thrones, you're not gonna like it. The combat is the weakest part of the whole game

Yo be fair, I'd played the first 2 games too and read the books, so witcher 3 was a perfect conclusion for me
