Haven't ever been around shores during a hurricane being active. Does this mean I'm gonna have dope ass 12 foot waves to dick around with?

Or will it be pretty normal because of the distance?

depends on where the storm goes and where your beach faces.

if its north or northeast facing you probably wont get much swell. if its a south east swell coming from the tropics it could get heavy.
