An Atlanta police officer is off the job after he was accused of running over a man he mistook for a suspect.

Warren Hill said the officer ran him over last week in the parking lot of the Mall West End.

"It hurt bad," he said. "My head, my neck, my back, my whole body. You get hit by a car, what do you think is going to happen?"

Hill said the officer thought he was a domestic violence suspect.

"I was trying to get away from the cops and I was scared of the cops, so I ran. So they thought I was the suspect and ran me down like a dog or an animal," he said.

And after running him over they arrested him for having warrant for a broken tail light.

Was that their primary intent? It seems plausible that in the haste of trying to apprehend him, who was fleeing (this isn't in dispute), that he was ran over.

I'm sorry. I didn't realize that running somebody the fuck over mattered depending on if it was their primary intent or not... THEY RAN A GUY THE FUCK OVER!

How is this even a "well, the cops could have been in the right" scenario?

Hill said after police realized they had the wrong guy, they still arrested him after discovering he had an outstanding warrant for a broken taillight and failure to appear in court.

So he's a criminal and that's why he ran from the police.

A shame he was run over. But if he's a criminal then let him take responsibility. If he chose to take responsiblity, he never would have run and gotten run over most likely. A shame but the police officer is out of a job so justice.

If he's willing to let a broken taillight persist in his OWN CAR he clearly has no regard for human life. Those cops are lucky to be alive and were justified in what they did.

I would agree. It's a pity he felt like fleeing instead of facing his crimes.
But it is also a pity that the police didn't stop the car in time.

Odd that you have a proclivity to use that word when describing me, but you haven't been right about that this year.

They probably have it setup like a drive thru now. You drive up to one window and hand them your job application and background check, then you pull up to the second window and they hand you a bag with your uniform, badge, gun, keys to a patrol car, etc. then smile at you and tell you have a nice day.

Running was the wrong call, but it doesn't even come close to running the dude over. The fact that so many people are basically "fair, next"ing this is WHY people feel like running from the police. People will justify literally almost anything a cop does.

I see two things that are wrong:

- A man was run over.
- A felon fled from the police.

All the rest is indeterminable based on the info available.
