She's interested in trying something that is more RP heavy than combat heavy. I don't really own anything in this subgenre and was curious what CE had to recommend?

RP Heavy? Probably not much that's couch co-op.

If you both have PCs, the Baldur's Gate Enhanced Editions have multiplayer.

If you have a PS3, PS4, or Xbox 360, the Tales of jrpgs have multiplayer during combat.

I haven't played it yet, but Eon Altar looks a lot like what youre looking for. It's some kind of rpg and dungeon crawler that requires a PC and up to 4 smartphones to play. The RP seems to be done by your character's private thoughts and observations being sent to your smartphone and you choose what to share with your party members.

diablo 3 is best couch cop

Basically any console diablo game is the best couch coop

As far as RP heavy games go, good luck with that...

Divinity: Original Sin is probably your best bet however it's fairly complicated.

We're going to try Divinity: Original Sin since I apparently have the enhanced edition and I decked it out with some balanced and graphics mods. I have two controllers, so it'll happen. However, her video game experience died and ended with super mario 64 and donkey kong country as she's not a gamer at all. It'll be interested to report how this goes, and for the fun of it, I'm gonna journal the experience here. We'll be playing the first time tonight.

Sadly yeah, you guys are all right. Nothing RP heavy in this niche. She wants to do something relaxed and roleplay a character, but divinity has turn based combat and she won't feel stressed to fight or make her moves etc when she doesn't know the button layout. I think it'll be survivable.

Session #1: She went Wayfarer because ranged combat sounded less daunting to her. She enjoyed picking the character setup but was overwhelmed by all the skill choices and stats, so I boiled it down for her and she got less anxious. Figuring out the control scheme on gamepad took a better part of an hour, because if you say "hit x to choose stuff and O to exit" she'll pause and have to look at the controller to remember.

She enjoyed the exploration and graphics/environments but didn't care for the looting element, and is wholly overwhelmed by the inventory/skill/attributes/RP aspects. But she dug the combat alot, loved that it was turn based and tactical, and had fun suggesting ideas on how to kill even the first basic enemies.

Overall, good reaction from a non-gamer. She'll probably play more tomorrow and the reports will continue.

That kind of reminds me of playing Diablo 3 on PS4 with my wife. She played a Demon Hunter, but couldn't really follow the stats, equipment, skills, etc. So, I just tried to set her up to deal the most damage from a hold/mash buttons set up. She couldn't be bothers with dodging mechanics and stuff.

Playing a Crusader helped me to keep her alive enough to have fun.

Get her into casual survival indie games like subnautica, the forest, stranded deep, ark etc. girls love that s***. "RP" to them just means pretending they are the character which you can do easily in such games. find more immersive games basically.
