It would be more realistic if each FPS game had a team working with you
That'd be more believable

Like Republic Commando

I always just think of it as the enemies are using BB guns while you're using actual firearms. That's why you heal by taking cover because you're just trying to get the pain away

The only thing that would make sense for a shooter would be if getting shot disabled the body part you got shot in.

Shot in the arm? Can't shoot. Shot in the foot? Can't run. Shot in the chest or head? U ded.

Of course if they were going to be realistic, you'd be able to carry a faction as much ammo and you'd have to keep track of magazines instead of getting a full one every time you reload. You'd also have to stop and pee every few hours, drink some water from time to time and file reports after every mission.

Why do people want video games to be realistic again?

Stuff like Halo makes sense because you're a super soldier in power armor, so it kind of canonizes the whole "overpowered player character" thing.

Even then the books and Halo 5 emphasize that Spartans work best as a team. That's also one of my problems with Halo 5. I wasn't a fan of Fireteams. Halo: CE really set the tone of being a one man army, since while you do get help in the form of Marines, they completely disappear halfway through the campaign.

Spartans being most effective as a group makes more sense, but in practice you no longer feel like a one man army.

It was primarily designed with co-op in mind.
