He started a new job 3 months ago at this really shitty company. It's a small software company but they're run by idiots. Someone quits or is fired every day. My husband is IT but he's the only one and so no one understands why he can't immediately respond to every single case (which are 100s).

So one chick quit (went for lunch and never came back). While cleaning up her laptop, he found an email from the CEO asking her to find his replacement.

If he loses his job, we're pretty much losing half our income. I haven't been able to sleep in days. He's been looking since he found out but nothing yet.

Honestly, I'm a bit angry at him too. Because his attitude to them has been shitty from the start and I kept warning him that he was making it worse. I told him to try and be friends with people and he didn't listen, they tried asking him for a beer once and he ignored them. He's been complaining every day since he started and I kept telling him to look for something else and he didn't. We already weren't in a good spot prior to this (some other shit he did). And now I dunno...

I'm super worried, we have a mortgage to pay and stuff :(

I know CE isn't the best place to post this but I have no one to talk to and just need to vent.

I know! And I told him that. That's why I'm pissed. To be fair, they were total assholes to him before they asked him that and he took it as a fake invite so they didn't look bad. But I told him he should just decline politely. He said he'd rather get fired. Well here we are.

lol

Do you guys live in any sort of urban area where he could easily find another IT job? Any city would allow him to find a new job within a few weeks. My strategy is to create accounts with resume info on Indeed, Dice, and LinkedIn. Recruiters search those job engines just like we would. I get constant emails with IT offers because of this. Don't seek them out, let them come to you.

Yeah, it sucks when companies don't understand that they need larger IT departments to cover demand. They've only got 1 person right now because they don't want to pay for more and that's going to cripple their organization when s*** hits the fan.

We do live in an urban area so there are jobs. The problem is he's very senior and well paid. A lot of the jobs pay crap even though the cost of living is super high. He'll find something I'm sure, it will just take a while.

He's working with a few recruiters now. He's gotten a couple of interviews but they haven't panned out. That's a good idea though about creating profiles. I still get recruiters messaging me on indeed.

I'm just angry at him for causing us additional stress. This will be the second time I have to take over as the bread winner (last time it was a mass layoff, not at all his fault). It took him a year to find a job and it was crazy hard to live off my income (which was like half of what it is now). I'm so stressed thinking that will happen again :(

Oh no doubt. They are total morons. They've been bleeding cash too. They think he can and should just do everything alone and fast. And if he doesn't respond fast enough, they start bitching to the CEO. Even when they replace him, it will be the same issue.

The problem is, his actual boss (aka the guy who hired him) quit a week after my husband started lol. They don't have anyone else who is technical and understands.

Yes. They can fire him any time. For anything.

We booked vacation prior to finding out everything. We leave Saturday. I have a feeling they might just fire him tomorrow to avoid paying for the time off.

Easier to find a job while you already have one, so make sure he's actively looking.
Don't quit, if he can't find a job before then, just get fired and collect unemployment.

It sucks but consider a side hustle, a guy at work here (also a software company) delivers pizzas at nights and on weekends. Decent money, a lot of under the table.

You know what they say about people who assume right?

We don't live in the boonies. It's a high cost city. We just bought a house a few months back.

We also have zero debt other than that. No credit card debt or student loans. His two cars are fully paid any my car payment is low ($280 per month). We have some savings. Along with the unemployment, we will be ok for several months. I'm worried it will take longer. And I'm upset he wasn't more collaborative with his coworkers.

One day when you grow up and enter the real world, you will understand that losing half your income suddenly is scary shit even when you're doing ok.

He wants to learn some new technology. His last company only wanted to use old tech. So he didn't get to learn or grow. Companies that already use new tech want people who know it. So he's looking at companies that use older tech but would let him explore new ones. There's a couple of certifications he can get too. They will cost a lot of money but will be worth it I think.

Depending on the certs they will definitely be worth it. Getting in a company that will help you improve is the right idea too. I need to make the same moves as he does tbh.

There isn't a way to call the insurance company to possibly, i don't know what you'd say, but at least some kind of compromise? Maybe see how long you'd have to wait.

Well it should be about 5-6 physical therapy sessions. If I do 2 a week, then we're looking at 3 weeks there. I'm out of town next week, so it's more like another month before I get relief. It sucks because I'm basically struggling to get out of bed every morning.
