Or unwillingness to have any disruption in his life or something, I'm not sure.

Mum wants to rip down the wallpaper and repaint their house. I think it's worthwhile because the wallpaper is horribly dated and peeling. It just looks terrible.

Whenever it's brought up though there's a long line of reasons he doesn't want to do it:

- paint will be too cold
- the walls will probably need to be replastered
- it's a lot of work
- we haven't really thought through how much is involved

I've offered to come and do all this for them, mind you. It wouldn't be that much work to patch up some walls and paint it, I've done it many times before.

Ok if you want to talk stupid masculine/feminine stereotypes then what man could look at a wall that's falling apart and not want to repair it? Because I worked in the construction trade for a while and I didn't know a single guy on that job who wouldn't constantly look around at his house and find work to do.

It's a shoddy finish and the wallpaper has lost its function.

I think if he's like me he's just sensitive about the state of the home and either wants to make it work as is or wants to do it himself and not involve others from a pride stand point, however doesn't have the time and/or energy.

I wonder about this. I mean he's in his mid to late 60s now and has pretty bad rheumatoid arthritis so its a bit of a sticking point I think that he can't do all this stuff himself anymore.
