If La La Land had won, the SJWs would've been out there bitching about how the Oscar's are "So white" again.
So, from now on, we just gotta throw a token black movie out there, whether its good or not, and it has to win something.
We can't just pick the best movie regardless of what race the actors are. Nope. We have to diversify the entire thing.

Can't just pick which movie was better anymore. Race is involved.

The judges obviously caved in to SJW demand.
If you think it's a coincidence - that the year after people are bitching on Twitter saying "#Oscarssowhite", and the very next year Moonlight wins, how naive are you?
t's like the referee that made the wrong call the first time, and tries to fix his mistake by calling the next penalty the other way later in the game.

Is this what you want, leftists? To patronize the African Americans that work hard in this country? It's like they aren't even equal thanks to your shenanigans.

Or moonlight was a best picture worthy film but with an all black cast and low budget it didn't have a chance without the greater attention added to minority films.

Or it could be like you say and white people make the best films and anything otherwise is a rigged against the white people.

This is the kinda thing people mean when they say white people have a victim complex from a situation of power

Or the voting members of the Academy liked Moonlight enough that it won. Any given movie doesn't necessarily have to be the top pick for everyone who votes, but if they get enough ballots with it in the #2 or #3 spot, that will boost the film.

But you just want to whine about the evil SJWs because a black movie won.

"Like I say" is rating a film based on how well the actors portrayed their characters, acted, and how good the story was. (or sang if it's some sort of musical) I don't care if the actors are white, black, green, blue, or whatever. If the movie was good, then it deserves the award. The best movie should win - every single year. Regardless of what race acted in it. Basically, it's the same concept of "hiring the best person for the job - regardless of race"

If it wasn't for the SJW's popularizing the #oscarssowhite tag, we wouldn't be in this mess right now. Nobody would be questioning Moonlight today, and life goes on.

By even noticing last year, that no African American movies won...that would mean you're looking at race. You're looking for race. That would mean that you're race conscious. Being race conscious means you cannot see beyond race. That means, you cannot see which movies are better than others. The only thing these people care about is diversity.

By being race conscious 100% of the time, means, that person is...a racist.

That failed that all the way back in the 1930/31 ceremony when Cimarron won.
We just have to accept that the movie we (as in, the individual) like most may not win.

That logic is stupid and only perpetuated by people concerned about the status quo than any form of equality.

Yes the best movie should win, but when the best movie is almost always white it means either.

1. White peoples make better movies than any other race
2. The voting system is bias and flawed
3. Other races aren't making as many movies for one reason or another

There are more white people than black people, and so, mathematical probability is going to rear its ugly head.
If you spin a wheel, and 3/4ths of it is green, and it lands on green more often over the 1/4th that is pink...are you going to be crying?

I don't think white people make better movies. I think certain actors are better than others - regardless of race. Maybe there is some privilege with caucasians getting their foot in the door in Hollywood(having an easier time due to their skin color- knowing the right people and having connections), but that's not my problem. Hollywood is supposed to be Liberal, so take your issue up with them.

Yeah but it lands on green 7/8 or even 15/16 instead of 3/4

If it was just more white people the percentages should still somewhat line up to national census reports

Unless it's some talent or opportunity gap.

Could be opportunity gap. I would certainly believe that. It all comes down to what people have the right connections or which higher ups ultimately decide who to give an opportunity to. It certainly is possible that some directors are racist, or only want certain races for the roles.

I would agree

Which is why moonlight is one of the cheaper oscar movies ever

So now that we agree it's opportunity over percentages and talent

Wouldn't it be fairer to say that instead of winning due to AA, moonlight got pushed into its proper position with the bigger spotlight on miniorty films and talent.

I just think, ultimately, that being an actor in Hollywood, or even getting your indie movie recognized or endorsed by Hollywood is an incredibly tall order to fulfill. The odds for anyone making it are really low.

I have no issues with Moonlight winning - it's that the previous year Twitter tag put doubt in a lot of people's minds. I certainly don't think La La Land was that great, so...to say it got pushed to the proper position, is a fair and accurate statement. I just had the doubt in my mind from the politics from last year.

I will never feel good about myself, but I do like calling out hypocrisy and calling ducks ducks.

"Just having a conversation" is such a classic copout to justify saying stupid shit. And you definitely wouldn't be having this conversation if you didn't feel victimized as a white person or conservative or whatever is going through your lizard brain right now.
