The least you can do is fucking not tie it up and at least let it go to give it a fighting chance if you decide not to take them.

Completely different scenario since these people are just ditching the dog and not eating it for their survival

Tying the dog to a fucking tree and leaving him in a position to not even be able to fend for himself? No. Fuck that, you can fully judge those people.

You kidding? It's like defending someone who leaves their child behind because of a flood. I mean it's not nearly as bad but still the same kind of shit as far as responsibility goes.

If you have a dog you should at the very least not leave it behind in a fucking flood.

Its quite easy to judge actually, as someone whos been in a flood situation and is a dog owner

Even if i was neither its incredibly easy to judge someone for not saving their dog

I literally read a different article today that said that Texans are refusing to leave their pets and are bringing them with them as they escape.

So obviously there are some people doing both. Given that thousands and thousands of people are having to evacuate, it's not surprising that the media can find examples of both.

I'd like to think a lot more people are trying to save their pets than abandon them though.

Not everyone can. Finances, lack of vehicles, medical issues that keep them from moving much. Plus with the highway flooding, if everyone tried leaving then the backup would have left thousands as sitting ducks.

i always hated this, during the storm of 2007. had to evacuate the house to try and avoid the worst of the storm. couldn't go back for the dog for 3 days as the roads were closed. if given the choice i would take the dog with me even if it meant living in a tent or car during a disaster.

post-katrina, our treatment of animals significantly changed in these disasters and most of the dogs are being protected

there are a few instances of this but most of them are being rescued. note that this is from boredpanda, a clickbait site, and not an actual news source--it's showing a few photos of the dogs with shit owners, and not data that suggests this is happening on a wide scale.

the real tragedy was in the canine shelters, many of them outdoor-only. there, any dogs who couldn't be tagged by rescues to be transported north had to be put down because the alternative was a lot worse. luckily, the storm motivated people to donate and rescues to act, and many shelters were able to completely clear out their dogs to rescues.

fuck that, you could at least have enough heart to unchain the dog before you leave. Maybe a better person than you will take them in, or maybe they actually survive.

....Yeah, they actually sort of do happen rather rapidly. Especially as they are completely unpredictable and a mass evacuation would have led to more deaths and diverting resources even more than has happened already
