Reproduction came before gender. Asexual reproduction still exists in nature.

This isn't as deep as you might think.

Sex came first. The genetic code that determines biologically what male/female is. It's why some things and humans can have both parts.

Gender is more of a human structure. It's the "brain's" gender so to speak. Whatever one may feel like. They might feel more like a female because of gender roles or whatever. All this stuff came way after basics such as "You have these organs and these cells, you are male/female". All that biological life doesn't really give a shit. That's more of a human thing to label and such.

We know sexual dimorphism has existed in animals for far longer than it has existed in humans (as in it predates humanity). Also we have no way of knowing whether or not animals have gender identities.

It doesn't fit all of the expected requirements for life, but some argue that it qualifies. It's a "life" that requires a separate life to live. (I personally think considering it to be alive is wrong)

And what came first? Definitely sex. I can't imagine our long historical ancestors giving a single shit about their gender.

Though seemingly lacking in the same complexity with which we humans consider gender, you could say that genders have existed since animals with two sexes began forming groups.

no. viruses arent living, but they laid the foundation for animal sex.

we dont have to look at viruses to see that "sex" predates genders. it's also in bacteria
