There's literally hundreds of openings in play at pro levels and the strongest ones still only have fractional notation advantages. For instance, kings/ queens Indian and London system all have 2 to 5 different variations by the 8th move, but depending on the opponent opening you can change by the 4th and have a different play plan entirely.

If you think the opening matters, you're wrong. Most games are won or lost when opening ends and mid game begins. Usually with a D/E 3-6 trade off.

I was expecting a much bigger freakout or something. Also I used to walk by the chess players at Union Square all the time but I was too shy to ever try to sit down and play with them. I would've gotten my ass kicked anyways because I suck at chess.
