"US President Donald Trump has signed a memo reinstating a ban on transgender people serving in the military, which was lifted under Barack Obama.

The memo also halts the use of government funds for sex-reassignment surgery for active personnel.

But Mr Trump left Defence Secretary Jim Mattis to decide whether to retain existing transgender recruits.

The ban, justified on grounds of cost and disruption, faces a legal challenge by transgender rights activists."

Why is this happening? Some liberals told me Trump failed and it wouldn't happen and they were laughing at the idea.

So another one of Trump's "bans 'gets watered down? This just bans recruits, he was originally aiming for all existing members. It's still a shitty decision, but I was never laughing at it. I'm not a liberal either, I just can't stand Trump, like the majority of Americans.

I'm pretty sure others convinced him to give up firing existing members.

But anyways this will just end up being another don't ask, don't tell where transgenders will just not disclose that they are transgender if they really want to serve in the military.

I hope this doesn't affect their benefits. Trans or not, they helped defend their country - their patriotism should not be punished because of who they are, whether they discovered how they felt before, during or after their service.

They have served - and continue to serve - because they love their country. Don't pour a heaping gob of spit on them for it.

It won't affect anything. It'll get challenged and shot down. He couldn't even get the Muslim Ban he wanted, so he had to try to spin an overwhelming loss as some kind of victory. And this ban has even less justification than the Muslim Ban did.
