I never get very far... I always stop after 2-3 riffs/verses and just don't know where to go or often what I'm writing about

I can't sleep
All these demons annoying me
Whispers in my head
I wish that we were all dead

Raise your hands to the fire
Then you'll understand
Tell me what you see
Shed your skin and be free like me

just writing whatever comes to mind, write a verse or two for me CE

I wish you the best of luck

I highly doubt CE will be anything but snidely dismissive about this

Doom metal. Tonally and structurally something like this

I did what I said I do and walked away and stopped but it's the first time in a while I feel like I'm onto something.

I'm sure once I can actually record CE might like what I put together. You can't really judge lyrics without music IMO.

I think repetition is key. Just play it over and over until the next part either comes to you through feeling it out or by hitting accidental notes, which does lead to some cool riffs now and then. When I say repetition I'm talking about playing it literally hundreds of times if necessary.

I suck at writing lyrics but what works best for me is listening to the instrumentals on my ipod when I'm out to feel out the placement and possible melodies, etc, so that when I come back to it I already have some ideas to try out. I think repetition also helps a lot to feel out what the song should be about. After a while you just start getting images in your head and then you just describe it in the lyrics.

Cheers for the tips. I've been a musician for like 8 years and have only written 3 songs, two of which I wrote lyrics. It's starting to really annoy me that I'm not "my own", if you know what I mean. I've considered watching 70s horror flicks with the sound turned off and subtitles and trying to write what I think they sound track should sound like, in my own style of course.
