I'm a white half Mexican (with olive-ee skin) that lives in Australia. When I went to LA I was expecting to catch up with my homies but then I realized really I'm just another gringo.

Same. Especially when you can get into colleges more easily.

I mean, both sides can take advantage of it. Whites can claim to be black to get into college easier, then blacks can claim to be white to get much higher chances to get callbacks on job applications

it's stupid.

we're the same race, but White supremacists created a shortsighted, arbitrary social construct that was eaten up by the ignorant and narcissistic. ethnicity and race are different.

Rachel Dolezal is stupid. she identfies with parts of Black culture just like many non-Black people because she's human. as humans, we identify with most cultures in one way or another.

Because it's racist.

race is little more than an arbitrary social construct.

from a naming perspective: borders between nations are nothing more than lines drawn in the sand for political purposes and have no bearing beyond that. If tomorrow the US wanted to buy Mexico and turn it into Super Southern California, then the people there would now be considered Americans, not Mexicans.

Similarly, what nation you are from does not determine your appearance, it's nothing more than a political element of where you have citizenship. Say a white person is born in South African, he is African American, but he does not have black skin.

now, from the visual element: there is no genetic or scientific basis to race, it's just based on "well, he has features that make him look like X." for example, if we look at a picture of Famous Rap Super Star Kanye West, we can deduce he is black because he has dark skin and facial features that are common with other African American people.

However, now let's look at someone like Sammy Sosa. Look at a picture of him from this year. He has white skin now; is Sammy Sosa a black person, or is he a white person? What about a hispanic man that appears black; is he black because he could be mistaken for black? You can see where these arbitrary labels fall apart.

The final factor that people use in this illusion we call "race" is the cultural element, where, say, a person of Race X can observe customs or holidays that differentiate him from other nations. However, there is once again no genetic or scientific basis, and a family is free to adopt customs as they see fit, so this isn't a hard indicator of racial differences.

For example, I am "white appearing" but I identify as a Japanese man racially. You cannot judge my race from my location (as it's a political move; I am in America but say Japan purchased the east coast tomorrow, I would now be Japanese), you cannot judge my race from my appearance as the visual element is undefined and unreliable, and you cannot judge my race from customs as I already feel more connected with Japanese cultural elements than I do with my American ones (i.e. I wear a kimono daily and practice the ways of bushido).

I foresee the next trend as something like "transable" where the argument is made that your ability to perform a job is a social construct. They will argue this on the basis that subject matter experts are some sort of bigot for preventing them from doing a job.

It would end affirmative action, which would be a good thing. Every job and college applicant in America would identify as a black woman.

Imagine, equality in a color blind society.
