That's what I'm hoping big time. If the power can stay on or come on not long after we'll be doing better than Ike in that sense.

Just want to remind you guys of one ray of hope. Don't forget about hurricane Rita in 2005. We were all so panicked through the entire city that the freeways were blocked from people trying to get out. Some people decided they would do nothing and stay home. It was supposed to be Cat 5 and everything, but it turned out to be a dud. So, if you start tipping out, just remember Ike AND Rita. There is at least some chance that it might not end up being as bad as it sounds. I think we will see some significant weather either way, but remember Rita. Don't forget the anxiety level of Rita and the soft, delightful reality that followed.

Katrina is a hard case to compare since it wasn't really the hurricane directly that caused the big problems; 15" inches of rain are expected widely with up to 25" isolated over the next five days or so, latest models bring it to the lower end of Cat 4 (130mph winds with higher gusts) as well although the official forecast is currently a little lower. My number 1 fear. I live in the spring/woodlands area. Power goes out here very easy, and was out for a long time for Ike. I don't know if I could take going that long without power.

They've had people out in Corpus all day, which is basically where the heavy part has been sitting for hours. These people are just insane.

It's centered over Victoria, halfway between Houston and Corpus, but it's supposed to loop back to us in a day or so.

Even though it's diminished in power it's still not good for flood prone areas.

While there may not be extreme wind damage it will probably stall over us and dump a shit ton of rain.
