Spoilers abound for surprise characters that show up, but no major spoilers below.

The exact moment that Elektra is introduced I feel like the season spins wildly out of control once it loses focus on Daredevil and focuses, instead, on her character + "The War" + relationship nonsense and doubling back (and down) on Nelson/Murdock being put in the trash. Why retread old water? Why take the focus off the obviously stellar breakout character of season 2?

Punisher is absolutely incredible and even has more scenes to shine in later on that everyone knows about, but it really slipped between gears and stalled on me.

DD S2 was like an epic boxing match the first 4 episodes. I did enjoy the last half, but when it was focused on DD vs Punisher, it was REALLY good.

Yeah the first 4 episodes of Daredevil S2 is probably the best the show had to offer. When they start going into the Hand thing I honestly sort of lost interest. I mean I understood why they did it (for the Defenders), but I think it was a shitty way in doing it.

Because they're building a cinematic universe, got to start connecting them at some point.

The Punisher is the only good part about S2.

Daredevil S2 had amazing fight scenes.

Dare v. Bikers, Punisher v. the entire prison and that cafe fight were fucking awesome

I didn't really care much for the Murdoc (Murdok?) interpersonal relationships.

I completely agree, the punisher arc was my favourite out of the whole marvel/netfix saga

the whole elektra relationship drama thing was pretty awful. and also felt a bit out of character for daredevil to be like that with karen

while there's obviously issues with dd s2, I do feel a lot of people have a disproportionate and kinda strange dislike for the hand as a concept more than anything.

like people seem to really resent the idea of ninjas in itself in a tv series involving a bullet proof man and a blind ninja dude etc etc. i feel people wouldn't care if they were genero grunts or something.

that said i really found the pivots in s2 to be kinda awkward e.g. first 4 eps revolve around the punisher, next few around the court case, next few around the hand.

That's the one downside of the Defenders.

Personally for me, the Hand just isn't interesting or believable.

It makes sense in DD seasons 1+2 (mostly), Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage (mostly) in that the entire reason these plots are possible is because the actual superheroes of the world are more focused on larger threats.

A ninja death cult with members all over the world trying to infiltrate companies and world governments? Seems like the sort of thing the Avengers would be all over.

But when it's smaller scale and lower stakes, it makes sense. Oh there's some guy who maybe has connections to organized crime? Oh there's some random dude offing mobsters? Oh there's this guy in purple who has maybe kinda done bad stuff? Oh there's a black organized crime guy in Harlem? None of the actual superheroes give a shit about that, so it's all on these street level guys to deal with it.

And yes, the background with "the War" and shit is like Iunno maybe it's just not written right, or maybe it's the issue I mentioned above but it just feels so... Iunno if "forced" or "tacked on" is the right phrase for it?

Which sucks, because there's notes of it that I like. Stuff like Gao, Nobu, Black Sky.

imo none of the shows fall off a cliff like luke cage did.

i didn't even dislike the big bad: he was something different at least and chewed the scenery big time.

stuff like that scene where they convince harlem to give police officers high powered guns within like 3 sentences however...smdh

I couldn't even tell you what happened after Cottonmouth got offed.

I remember sitting in my living room with my wife and friends.

I remember watching it.

But I don't think I could explain or accurately recall the plot of the second half. It was insanely dull and forgettable. Ditto for the villain.

I actually think I fell asleep during it. Which it holds in distinction with Exodus, and Divergent for the only film/tv shows I've fallen asleep for on first viewing.

The villain had "chitauri battle armor" that looked like a sweater with some padding.

Diamondback is unfairly maligned and is quite fun if you can (again this is a universe with a bulletproof man and blind ninja dudes) just enjoy how zany he is.

everything surrounding him is just kinda...bad though. lots of contrived political scheming that the writers obviously thought was clever and not just needlessly contrived and full of coincidences to work. guess the weapon stuff was an okay way of letting luke be in danger though.

it's just a pity because the early stuff is really good and the style of the show is off the charts.

fwiw i dont think iron fist is *that* bad but it definitely feels like the sloppiest of the shows
