How hard is it to learn to speak Korean?

What are some easy ways to get along immediately with a Korean person, considering the culture? (I guess you could change this to a what should you never say or do instead.)

Korean is a completely different language structure to learn so it'll take a while for American English speakers to pick up, especially if you've never learned another language before. That being said, the writing/reading system is VERY easy.

Korean cultural/social interactions are quite nuanced, but one of the main things you should always remember is shake hands with strangers with two hands, bow when they bow, and when it's like an honored guest you accept and give things with two hands.

What's the most brazen act of racism that you've been on the receiving end of?

My elementary school assumed my English was poor because of my skin color, and made me take a series of very low level English tests all throughout elementary school that, in retrospect, was hella messed up because every other person there was also Korean. (i went to school on a us military base in korea)

Beyond that, probably being denied taxi cab service by a Korean driver because I spoke English and was with white friends. And when someone tried to start a conversation with me, asking me if I was Japanese, and then going on to explain that he can't tell the difference between Asians and then asking me if I was JApanese again.

When I was in 1st grade we had to pair off with partners and I was left with a white girl and I out-loud said "wow i'm glad you're not a black girl"

i got into trouble and at that moment realized how awful that kind of discrimination is and that i'd never do it again

Ignore when people say that the title length is not important, that a title should just convey what the game is about. They're just jealous theirs isn't as long

Nah. Solid film but there are better ones.

Are there any Korean social norms that you have a negative opinion of?

I really dislike the old conservative attitude toward age and status that Koreans have
where you expect preferential treatment because you're old
in older days, this was the norm
but in today's world you can't expect people to keep up with such archaic practices

I grew up with American culture
but no, I enjoy Korea's history and am fiercely proud of my heritage. Wouldn't have it any other way.
Gives me flavor, a distinct cultural identity.

Thanks! I'm going to work at the language because I've been really liking a lot of the Korean movies lately.

I heard about the shaking with two hands before, but I'll have to remember using two hands generally for guests.

lol good luck
Shaking with two hands is also just for anybody older or in a higher position than you - what i mean by "honored guests"
Korean Confucianism generally relies on a system of raising each other up in social interaction - for example someone older than you needs to be interacted with with two hands, but if they're a stranger to you they'll also regard you as an "honored guest" of sorts
idk if that makes sense

<_<

I hate to do this but
I'm an American who grew up with American culture

but anyway homosexuality in Korea is gaining some movement but ultimately it's still prejudiced against heavily both socially, legally, and culturally. It's still a very taboo subject.

Why recently the Korean military went on a witch hunt for gay people in the service

A direct "relative" of galbi, so to speak, is probably Bulgogi which is like beef round slices (or pork) or something marinated in soy sauce, garlic, onions (my mom uses some fruit juice or cola as well) and all that and cooked over a hot fire quickly

You should also try Korean pork ribs they're delicious at most places

Don't be afraid to try Korean marinated/pickled veggies too
