This is so unproductive in my opinion. I currently have a job resetting big stores with a team of over 20 coworkers. We go in very early in the morning and work till afternoon. It's not complicated and you're basically reading instructions off of a planogram. Each person is assigned a section of the store to work on. Lately, I've been getting the same assignments and so I now know my section very well. It's repeating the process at different stores across the area.

So this week I've been sent home earlier. I got only 7 hours on 2 of the days. Last week I had gotten some overtime actually because I helped afterward. I guess this week my bosses didn't want to let me do any extra. So what did I do today? I worked really fast in the early morning and got my section halfway done in 3 hours. Then, I took a very long break. Actually, the break is supposed to be 15 minutes, but everybody seems to take 30 minutes almost. So then I slowed my pace down to kind of go along with another co-worker beside me who had about the same size of the section. I took long restroom breaks and just slowed down a lot!

I have come across this same systematic problem at other jobs where if you finish your work and have no other task then you will be sent home. It's hourly wages so it really matters a great deal. My work ethic is totally against this mentality. I want to do my job and get paid for the work and not for my time spent at a place.

This is why I either want to do contract work, make my own business, freelance, and simply get paid by the amount of work I put in. Why should I have to slow down to match some workers who are chit chatting all day and who likely will get more money because they took their time?

So do I, but it's actually because people rush through processes, repeatedly make mistakes, and get lackluster performance reviews.

I understand that people make more mistakes when rushing. I guess there would have to be a balanced system. It's just seems counter-productive when jobs promote milking the system in order to get your hours.
