Day 1 was 35lb (with food/water) and by mile 200 I was down to 20lb with food and water.

Are you aware of missing 411

Did you hear of any missing people.

Did you see a Bigfoot or hear stories about them

Unaware.

I saw a missing person poster just before delaware water gap in PA, some kid on a dirtbike. Rumour was he committed suicide.

No bigfoot nor creepy stories. Walking through mist alone at night was creepy enough.

edit: i knew a woman had got lost and died in ME a few years back, i got lost in the exact same area she did when i went for a shit, was scary

He would make his mark, if not on this tree, then on that wall; if not with teeth and claws, then with penknife and razor.

I have a friend who did it this year. Headed the same direction too. It seems unlikely you'd have run into each other though. Or maybe not. I don't know how many of you there are.

How in shape do you have to be to do something like this, or even a small portion? I've always wanted to try.

I didn't train for it, I think the best preparation is actually hiking, so the first 30 days got me in shape. That said I lost 45lb total.

Lots of big guys and girls out there hiking. Mental strength is more important Imo. Go for it, it's the best thing I have ever done!

There are wooden shelters every ten miles or so. I slept in my tent however, wherever I wanted. I was a bit more unorthodox and also slept in bathrooms, in a baseball dug out, in shopping malls, abandoned buildings ... But very few people did that.

I ate poptarts and peanut butter for breakfast. Cliff bars and protipein bars and candy in the day. Tortillas and cheese. At night I had knorrr pasta sides and tuna fish. Same food every day pretty much. You cross roads every few days so can hitch a ride into towns.

I looked at gear lists on r/appalachiantrail and then read the awol guide book and then just did it, no regrets
