I'm so sick of working this min wage part time job at 25 years old. It's incredibly easy and I can literally surf the internet the whole day but I don't get enough hours and they don't offer full time so I'm just banking on the fact that I wont have any huge medical problems. I want to start a career and have a salary so I can blow money on fun stuff instead of being conscious about it. This job also has me waking up at 5 AM and I'd rather not do that anymore. I've applied to like maybe over 20 places now and gotten a bunch of rejections.

You, come to think of it, I never had to apply for a job via resumes or fill-out forms. Every time I moved on to a better job was entirely due to word-of-mouth recommendations.

A huge factor is that I don't fuck around on the job by literally surfing the Internet all day. ('-' )

Or get into a trade.

I left my last job for less money simply because while I was advancing and well thought of it was the kinda thing where it only matters if you plan on staying there forever. And the thought of staying there forever made me want to die young. I mean I had benefits and a pension and made about 5 an hour more... But now I'm doing a carpentry apprenticeship so I can advance and actually have options

No offense, but you don't really sound like a great hire. Maybe you should work on that.

You sit around surfing the internet all days? That's your problem. You have no ambition. That's why companies don't want to hire you.

How is it fucking around? It's either that or I'm literally staring out the window. All I have do is make sure people have a card to get into the building, which I do.

I meant at my job I can surf the internet all day, I was adding onto the "why my current job is easy" part. Maybe your problem is you try to diagnose other people's problems too quickly.

That should provide job opportunities.......or was this particular program overly broad and not focused enough?

My program was Health Informatics, so we did some study in database/system management, which definitely helped with employment prospects.

Sometimes an interviewer can tell if you're a qualified candidate just by having you answer a couple questions.

So tell me, are you ambitious? And what have you done to peruse your dreams?

Health Science is one of the most useless degrees out there, nearly up there with gender studies.

A lot of health science majors end up working in customer service...for healthcare/health companies.

Not completely. You're only 25. A health science degree was always a bridge to a more serious medical specialty. I know a friend who got a Chiropractor license in 2 years.

If I had a job where I can surf the internet all day, I would use at least half of that time to learn new skills. But hey, that's just me.

That leads to the underlying problem that I'm hardly interested in anything. I like research but research in the US is dying due to less grant money. I loved the chemistry courses I had to take and would love to pursue it but I'd need to get an entire new degree which is more loans I can't pay. I was thinking IT or programming, as those are skills that don't necessarily need a college degree, but I'm not sure the passion is there. I love and make music but I don't think I'm good enough to make money from it and art is a very risky thing to try to make a living off of. I would love to get into game design but that needs programming and I'd be way more secure as an app developer or website developer with a coding background. I also love little kids but idk what to do with it. I'd like to be a streamer or blogger, something with an audience, but that too is very risky and unstable.

Most of my friends that have salaries and careers either got jobs straight out of undergrad and/or live and breath what they do. There's hardly a single thing I could see myself devoting my life to. Research is probably the closest thing.

I think I will be looking for a job at the start of next year. I have been working as a computer technician for 8 years in a small computer shop. Things here havent been going well over the last year. The boss barely has enough money to pay the bills and he is cutting my hours this week.

I cant quit now though because I have holiday plans for October that I made earlier this year. I just hope the shop doesnt die before then.

I dont want another job with computers though, Im so over working with them.

Where do you live? Back in Baton Rouge many people that never went to college worked at plants as operators and actually worked their way up to over 100K a year. Sure turnovers suck when they happen but it's a lucrative job that doesn't need many qualifications. Just gotta stay off the weed and other drugs is basically all they ask

Or you could start your own business. Think of something you're really good at and how you can use those skills to offer something other people would pay money for.

Or just do something mundane. Like I live in Vegas and work as a server. Get $8.50 guaranteed wage plus tips from drunk tourists. Drive for Uber and Lyft on the side sometimes where I don't really have to answer to anyone and just drive tourists to the casinos mostly.

It is riskier to do something you don't love for the money, because you have no guarantee that you'll even get that

Well, I was right about the ambition part. Research is fairly useless as a career. Unless you're in a very demanding field, you won't get any grant money. I have 2 coworkers who came from the research field to work in sales.

IT is a lot more demanding these days and it's not the IT field from 10 years ago. Programming requires a lot of dedication. A company will not just hire any programmer...they want the best. If you want a 6-figure salary, you better be super dedicated and be really good at it. Python is the way to go for web. Swift for app development.

You can forget about music unless you're really good. I've seen some really talented artist empty bank accounts. You can also sell music on music stock websites. I've bought music from Audio Jungle.

Don't bother with game design unless you can draw really well or have made a game before. Everyone came be a 'game designer' these days, but not everyone can become one for real.

Everything is risky and everything takes work. It takes dedication and passion. You need to understand it from a microscopic level. Like I said earlier, health science majors sometimes end up in healthcare customer service. Maybe you can temporarily give that a try.

hours are brutal, gotta load the truck with packages by self.
all delivery's have to be done before one goes home for day.

does provide good pay though and if don't get into accident for 20 years receive a unique jacket.
