I was at Otakon all weekend and pretty unplugged from the whole thing. Coming back into it and slowly reading a lot of information from both sides has me pretty disillusioned with the whole thing. As Trump's presidency continues, it's getting harder and harder for me to say "it was worth it" to make liberals mad. Starting to wish I just straight up hadn't voted.

There is no reason it should have taken him so long to distance himself from a group of losers doing their little Nazi LARP thing. There is NO REASON that said losers should've been allowed to be characterized as the face of his support base. But John Oliver did hit it on the head when he made the comparison to cats liking you because you're feeding them. He didn't come out strong enough to shut them down during the election and in the however many attempts he'd had since them, and now he's reaping that.

There was a time to call out the Antifa for being criminals. The time was NOT one day after one of them got RAN OVER by a psycho neo Nazi. Jesus christ. What an absolute shit show.

Well this sure went downhill... Antifa will never be as bad as the Nazis. They stand for anti fascism, they do have some despicable people in their midst, and yes some of the shit they say is radicalising and hate mongering. But, their core principals are one of good, the same cannot be said for the Nazis.

You can condemn both sides, sure, look I just did so. But you can't equate them, until they stand directly for hatred, and considering, thank god that some of their members do call out the hatred amongst them, it doesn't seem they'll ever go that way.

There's a few arrests happening after the fact. I mentioned how the flag got taken down, police made an arrest of one of the people who did earlier today. Some people accused of assault who can be identified will also likely be arrested in the coming days, from all sides. At the event itself police did do a few things, like literally making it harder for people to leave and continuing to round them into the same area.

But I don't think you're too fond of that either. And yes, helicopter crash technically related but I don't think to anyone in particular.

I specifically remember asking ExTha why he was voting for Trump because he was so unqualified and he actually had a good cogent response of "I honestly don't believe it matters much in the day to day lives of most people who i president and I don't like the language coming out of the left on issues x y and z."

They're people who fully believe in white supremacy, that the Jews are to blame of many of the world's problems, that blacks are mentally inferior, that women's rights are a mistake, that we should remove migrants by force (including many legal ones), that the state should have stronger control, and more.

They were the majority. Not LARPers, but genuine believers.

Yeah the permit argument only extends to as far as why one side was allowed to demonstrate within the law, it doesn't extend to covering why that rally was allowed to exist in the first place, it's also the direct definition of a slippery slope argument. Here's why: If you don't allow people within the realms of protected free speech to protest AND counter protest (non violently of course) if they're only allowed to do so with a permit, because at that point you're saying your freedom of speech is only tolerated if your speech is sanctioned by law.


I know you're not advocating for this Jakyl but I'm sure some here will be making note of the difference between permit and no permit, whilst advocating for freedom of speech.
