Videos straight up don't buffer anymore. When looking at the time stamp You go to a few minutes earlier and the video still needs to do that loading animation thing before it shows you a part that already played.

Even live streaming services aren't as garbage as this are they?

Sounds like a decision made to conserve data to me.

Yeah I remember when they removed buffering videos to completion around 6 or so years ago (like The Simpsons, Youtube has actually been garbage far far longer than it has been good, pretty wow)

But now I'm not even asking for the full video to buffer in its entirety. You can't even rewind to a couple of scenes back without the video needing to reload? The fuck? And there have been odd occasions within the last few years where... the video seems to get stuck entirely and not really play anymore, and you have to refresh the page. This is some dailymotion/vimeo/other youtube knockoff shit right there. Yet Youtube is basically the google of search engines. Everyone uses it and only it.

It just amazes me that in a world with so much competition, no one has complained about this enough to make another popular video site that knocks youtube down a peg or two. This isn't like Microsoft in the 90s where any and all competition was either bought out or crushed by sheer might.

Youtube has been bad for a while now. It's surprising no challengers have appeared to pick up the ball.

A small technical problem every now and then won't be the end of YouTube.

Advertisers pulling out of YouTube is a real problem.

Yes. That's the real problem. YouTube has recently increased their auto detection thing and many people are being screwed over.

There are and always have been. Veoh, DailyMotion and Vid.me just to name a few. The problem is youtube has just always been the most popular making it the best platform for content creators to reach an audience and traffic snowballs from there. Unless a sizable portion of those content creators move to another platform or the site becomes unusable (which is what Google has seemed to have been trying to do since they bought it), youtube is going to continue to dominate it's field.

Yeah, now NONE of my subscribed channels show up in my "Recommended" or "Recently Uploaded" tabs on YouTube's front page. That's changed as of a week ago. I thought some of my favorite channels had just taken a break from uploading, but no. Apparently they're no longer being promoted because they swear alot.

I honestly think this is what will be the downfall of YouTube. Its constantly pushing "safe" and "advertiser friendly" content that no one wants to watch rather than what people have genuinely shown an interest in. Seriously considering finally getting a Netflix subscription now instead of watching YT for my veg out time

Not sure if srs or not... Anyway, one example would be CarlSagan42. Exclusively uploads Mario Maker and SMW rom hack stuff so the content is as kid friendly as anything could ever be. Most of his dialogue is him talking science stuff with his stream or explaining the ingame tricks he's doing. Unfortunately he swears quite a bit and has dropped off the front page as a result. Hell, even Markiplier's new vids are not showing up for me and he's one of the largest channels on the platform O_o

I really doubt the death of a site is because it has a profanity filter. Remember when google removed their safesearch off feature? Didn't cost them their audience or anything.

No, the real problems of youtube are in the actual website itself and its functions, either getting worse or outright removed.
