well yeah

They want you to immerse yourself in the language... that's the best way to learn... a language. I personally understand other methods, as speaking in english helped me in spanish lessons to understand grammatical rules and such when I needed to have things explained. But this method isn't anything that weird.

Once you start, you'll probably be surprised at how many different sentences you can form even with just a basic vocabulary.

The hard part is trying to understand the teacher who's been speaking the language fluently for years, or audio exercise where you have to decipher what native speakers are saying.

Yeah I mean I guess that's not the big deal, the big deal is that he will talk in Spanish at all times and my old spanish teacher basically did jack shit when it came to teaching us listening. 99% of our stuff was written

Was your placement test entirely written? If so, that's silly.

Yeah it was

And even then I got like 30 out of 75 questions right only, I think I bombed the past preterit vs imperfect part due to poor reading comprehension even though that was like all we did for the last month or so last year of Spanish III

This is how my introductory language class was. It was horribly stressful but you actually learn the language.

I mean I'm scared because most juniors tested into Spanish 101 and 202 or whatever and I'm being thrown into Spanish III which will likely mostly be seniors who were already exposed to this at an earlier level

All you need to remember is "Cómo se dice "how" en Español?". You say that enough and the teacher will either throw you out for irritating them, or pass you for the same reason.

The general idea is that full immersion in the language forces your brain to learn and adapt

But at the same time, I imagine it's not that helpful when most of the people you speak to on a daily basis are also not proficient, lol

Immersion style class.

It works, trust me.

It will be weird at first, but if the teacher is good, they will use basic sentences and a ton of repetition.
