The problem with Kojima is that he used to make interesting and fun games but now it got into his head and he's full of himself.

He was given way too much "artistic freedom" (aka drinking and fucking Joost) by Konami. Also, he surrounds himself with people who only praise him and won't stop him when he will try to do stupid shit, which is why MGSV was such a fucking garbage. If someone was there to keep him on track the game would come out not only much earlier, but also finished.

Death Stranding will be shit because Sony does not care for him to make actually finished game. They want anything with his name slapped on it and as long as they will let him fuck around as much as he wants, he will praise working with them, so people will take that and praise them too. Konami has a bunch of flaws but they warned everyone that working with Kojima is a fucking nightmare and literally everyone complained about shit he was doing during MGSV development. So yes, I think he's now overrated.

I've said for a while that Death Stranding would be the proof we need to see if he is truly great or if he has been propped up by interesting characters that were developed by people along with him.

But honestly, his cult of personality is so large at this point that he could shit in a box and his fanboys would find a reason that it is a masterpiece.

Kojima isn't as great of a writer as his fanboys make him out to be. There's a reason that he's remembered most fondly for his simple stories and not when he tries to do overly complex shit.

His skills are much more refined in directing than the actual writing IMO.

There could be some truth to it but in every one of his games there's been moments of brilliance and a bit of self indulgent crap so I'm ok with it. When he puts something out that's more crap than brilliance then I'll stop buying his stuff.

I lost a lot of respect for him over the whole MGSV situation. I lost respect for Konami as a company as well.
