The Riddler was menacing enough. Why kill off your villain after spending the whole episode building him up as a genuine threat. And I liked the fact that he had ties to a piece of Wayne's past. Maybe he has a grudge against Bats because his father is the reason he disappeared. Could've made the series about Bruce coming to terms with his parent's past and what it means for his role as Batman. That's definitely the button the Riddler was pressing.

But no, we have to go bigger and more EPIC, so we're going to set up this scary villain as a patsy for the BIGGER and EVILER secrit organization cuz simple is boring

Could Riddler have faked it? I don't know shit about Telltale Batman, but it definitely seems odd to kill off one of Batman's greatest villains (and some would argue the best villain) in the very first episode.
