They're not really that good

They take a sharp decline in quality after the first one

They're also needlessly convoluted and put shit like Metal Gear Solid to shame

First one was pretty unique at the time. The rest just turned into torture/gore porn.

The second one had an interesting plot and twist, though.

I remember how awesome and groundbreaking the first one was and pumped to see the second one in theaters. And when Jigsaw tells Donnie Wahlberg "you're sons in a safe place" just about the entire group I was with in the theaters started whispering to another "Oh watch he's actually in the safe".

Problem with twisty movies, especially simple ones, is that after you see one and get used to their tricks it's so easy to spot. Not to mention how bad they got

I loved them. The first 3 were excellent

The only one I wasn't crazy for was I think the seconed to last one (the one with Eddie from Family Matters). The traps were weak and the story wasn't that fun

Still it was a yearly tradition to see them in October and I'm hyped to do that once again this year

I enjoy them, as a guilty pleasure.

The only one I don't really care for is the second one. But I like the rest and how all the puzzle pieces fit together by the end.

Honestly not a lot of quality horror films lately. The new It is the only thing to look forward to.

Saw is about as good as it's gotten in the past decade or so.

It seems like horror movies these days just deal with the supernatural and unless thats done in a specific way (Ghost House or Poltregeist for example) its just a sub genre thats incredibly boring

The first and third are the best ones imo. First for the story, and a twist that was pretty great for its time. Third one for traps, and by that I mean it had the most traps that would be the worst to find yourself in.

The trailer for the new one doesn't look awful either. I'm not expecting a great film, but the trailer was a good first impression.

That's from the third one, and yeah easily one of the most gruesome traps in the whole series.

First was best.

Second and third were alright sequels.

Fourth is were it really started to get convoluted.

Fifth or sixth (they all start to blend together) was actually not a bad movie. The other was was meh.

Seventh was weak.

The first one is a great horror thriller that stands up as one of the greats of it's era. Everything after that is just convoluted garbage, though. It's sad; it created the gore porn genre, but was far more psychological than the rest of the genre. I guess it's the same way that Halloween created the slasher genre even though it carried basically none of the hallmarks of the later iterations and was closer to Psycho than it was to a teen slasher.

Agreed with the yearly tradition thing. The quality definitely took a dive once Jigsaw died but they still held my interest.

Had no idea there was a new one coming out, wow.

I hated the last one, part 7.

The main dude's wife/girlfriend had done nothing wrong, yet she died for HIS fraud. Saw's gimmick is that people who deserve to be punished, get put through a test, yet the main dude didn't have much to loose, and his "partners" in crime weren't tested either, they were just the subject of torture.

Didn't that become part of the story though? Jigsaw's apprentices not really bothering with teaching a lesson, just murdering people for giggles?

No, in part 7 was revealed that Gordon from the first one was his apprentice aswell, and that he continued John's work as intended, punishing and testing those who deserve it.

Yeah. It's supposed to show Jigsaw's apprentices don't really give people a chance to get out and kind of kill for the fun of it.

I'm pretty sure Jeff's daughter lives though. Hoffman pulls her out at the beginning of 5 for the whole hero thing
