I had no idea this thing existed. Apparently every 20 years they hold a state referendum on election day where we as a state can vote to have a convention two years later where delegates write a brand new State Constitution with a bunch of new amendments added in.
Stuff like restructuring districts of the state. Making new counties. Making new legislation for certain things both sides of the aisle want to be in the constitution. Better protection for LGBTQ people? More lax gun rights? More strict term limits? Anything can happen.

All the people bitching about the status quo and how they wish we could shake things up with the government... well this is your fucking chance.

The only reason I even know about it myself is because I've seen a lot of teachers with bumper stickers telling you to vote against it. I looked it up finally and was blown away anyone is against it. Seems like the major opposition for it is mostly in the form of old conservative people that don't like change, career politicians that like stability, and labor unions that are supposedly concerned that the constitution could be changed so that people lose their pensions (though it's probably because they're fucking corrupt and in bed with legislators and don't want to risk the strong hold they have).

Do you really trust this government to do a better job than a previous one?

Lol why because their Union said so? There's mathematically almost no way for Republicans to eliminate state pensions if it passed, especially considering how left-leaning NYS is.

Instead it could be used to give better protection to marginalized groups, improve state healthcare and Medicaid, expand wilderness protection, all with new amendments but nope can't do that cuz MUH PENSION.

Actually the way it works is if it passes, each district then votes on delegates to represent them. These delegates draw up a new constitution, present new amendments to it which the people then vote on again, and then it becomes law.
So, no I don't trust this government because ultimately it comes down to how we as citizens vote on it.
