@Kerred

Last game painfully lasted 9 hrs. But it was decided really early.

I unlocked what seemed to be the ultimate OP-combination: Michelangelo and St. Peter's Basilica.

I didn't have to do anything else complicated--didn't bother chasing early game wonders or anything that telegraphed it. Just took drama, a cheapo tech nobody ever chased, and proceeded to build 2 drama/2 religion-A and spend the rest of the game getting food, raising population, and throwing them at my army.

2 drama/2 religion/st peter's/michaelangelo was netting me 17 culture a turn early in age I. I was lucky enough to get medieval army, so even with just 2 pop dedicated to soldiering I was sitting at 5 military and every turn I could add to that if I needed to, and in age II I was able to get cannons and napoleonic army, so nobody ever raided my urban buildings successfully. Plus there are only two raids in Age I, so it seems like military counters to it are very weak until it's too late.

I know there are counters--mainly iconoclasm and ravages of time--but they didn't come out until I had a >100 point lead. The rest of the game was boring.

Do people frequently use their political action to resign when stuff like this happens? I felt inappropriate suggesting it but the game just dragged on.

Apparently people have commented that hate-drafting is a common tactic against this strategy specifically. Seems like a dangerous thing to do to yourself, although I guess there's very little a player is going to do with Michelangelo except that.
