Is this a good thing?

I haven't played the game, but this sounds like a bad idea.

Oh hey it's just like the NES days.

In the only bad way.

I think that's pretty dumb. Don't see any benefit to it.

It doesn't actually have such a feature.

Eh, I'm undecided on it. I love hardcore modes, but some parts of the game have rather long cut scenes and I'm not sure how well they'll hold up with back to back repeated playthroughs.

(slight spoilers on in game ability)

On a side note, though, you are given an ability that seemingly grants you full health. In my current 3 hours I have yet to die once because of this ability and intentionally saving it for close calls.

It's kind of a neat, novel thing. Also, this game is hardly the first to do something like this.

I remember hearing about some game for the XBox that had you piloting a mech or something and it came with this big, giant ass special controller, and if you died once in that game, it would immediately delete your save file.

And in Nier, apparently if you 100% the game completely, in order to see the true ending, you have to have your save data deleted.

Too many times? Why not the first time you die?

Sort of-- if you choose the "D" ending, then your save gets deleted

Here's why it's a good thing: this one time I saw someone post pictures of their Minecraft house. Their house included, in the corner, a pit of lava to jump in when they got hungry.

Ehhh

Sort of.

You have to CHOOSE to do it (it warns you like 4 times) and you can't do it first time.

What's cool tho is you name your character at the start, and if you try to start a new game and use the same name as the save that was deleted, it goes "This name does not exist."

^ Hey now that's completely unfair.

Sounds more like it's about adding tension throughout the game than deleting players saves if they fail. But I'm sure gamers will complain without giving the game a chance regardless.

That's why the game is $30 and even that is reaching. What's the point of having a save file at all then? This semi-permadeath makes no sense!

It represents the psych of the player or something. It sounds pretty interesting.
