Admittedly I'm not a tech kind of person, so this is probably a stupid question. The PS4 has the option to "rebuild database". What does this actually do? Is it worth it? And how do you perform this on the other consoles? (Specifically the XB1 and U).

The Wii U doesn't have it or I would know what it is

IIRC it's sorta like a reboot but not a complete format. I'm sure my PS says that when the power cuts out. I think it checks there's no corrupted data in the OS and game installs and tries to fix them or something.

I've only ever seen it on the PS3 and PS4. Steam sorta has this option with game installations but that's sorta different.

Yeah I'm not entirely sure just because I ran into some trouble with my Xbox 1 not too long ago to where it wasn't really responding, but I was able to (seemingly) fully reset it by just unplugging it.
