After (hopefully) obtaining a good lawyer or two and a financial team with a plan---how are you going to spend your money?

Do you give some millions away to your parents or siblings? Do you decide to retire your best friend by giving them a few million? Or do you play it by ear and see how your investments fare, giving or splurging based off of your monthly or yearly gains?

What do you buy? Do you immediately go on vacation and travel? How do you handle your new windfall?

I have 2 siblings and my wife has 2 siblings and I have 2 cousins that I really like. I'd give each of them 2-3 mil depending on badly they need it. I would set aside another 5 mil and donate it to charity. I'd build a dream house, nice cars, etc, then I'd put half of it in the bank and invest the other half, and I'd keep working tbqh. My work allows me to be pretty flexible if I want, so I'd work part time or something.

Give away probably at least 25 million to friends and family. Buy a really nice house in secluded area (along with some properties in areas I'd want to travel to frequently) and spend the rest of my life relaxing. Also get a dog, I can't get one now because I'd have to leave it alone for 9 hours each day.

Yeah, it depends. Some stories are bigger than others. For the really big winners in multi-state lotteries, it can sometimes be a national story but sometimes not. Some states do not require your name to be released, some do.

Even states that release identities, you can sometimes hire a lawyer that specializes in these circumstances and have them set up a trust to claim the winnings versus yourself outright. There's sometimes ways to get around it if you don't want others to know, but it can sometimes be hard depending on the laws of a given state.

CE has no imagination when it comes to winning large sums of money... Always a bunch saying how they'd just save/invest it.

First purchase: large piece of beach front land in Phuket (at least 1 acre but ideally bigger). I then build a massive compound on it. Huge house for my wife and I, 3 bedroom house for my parents and then 4 other 3 bedroom houses for my wife's immediate family and for a friend of ours and his wife. I'll then pay her family a salary to take care of the land/housekeeping while they get to live rent/bills free.

Next purchases: 2017 BMW S1000RR, Range Rover and an Aston Martin DB9.

I'd give my parents and my brother 20% of it (like 12 mil for my parents, 8 for my brother). I'd then take another 10 million and split it up amongst my wife's family, my cousins and some friends. 10 mil locked in an account for my kids.

Then I'd spend the next year or so travelling while waiting for my house to be built. I'd also buy a huge condo in Vancouver

Hey that sounds fun, but careful there--how much does that beach front land and 'massive compound' cost? And you're outright giving away 20 million? Better save some to generate that monthly dividend money.

$10m to my brother and his wife.
$5m to each of their kids (a daughter and a son), that cannot be touched until they are 25.
$10m to my parents
$1m to my brother's wife's sister (co-sister-in-law? I can never remember the term) as a wedding present since she's marrying her girlfriend this November.
$1m to their parents
$5m to charity

That's $37m total. $60m of what's left will go into a savings account or mutual fund or some kind of stable investment portfolio. The last $3m will go into my checking account for just general spending cash. I probably wouldn't even buy a house, tbh. Just find a nice apartment and live comfortably. I'd still work, but I'd cut down my hours so I'm not working 6 nights a week anymore and can have a bit more of a social life.

All that spending would cost me 50 million at most including giving money to family/friends. If you can't then survive on 50 million dollars, let alone the insane amount of interest you'll make on it then you are fucking hopeless.

Fair enough. $50 million, after taxes, would likely generate a safe minimum of 50-100k/mo. Which is good. But that would also mean the remainder of your money is invested in the market---what happens when another "9/11" strikes or the economy sucks away half of your investment?

It's definitely a personal decision and lifestyle factor, but I'd like to have several millions hidden away for safe keeping/rough economy and also be able to spend (or not) 100k+ each month.
