Not really. They'll probably keep billing you unless you call and let them know that you want to cancel.

Why don't you just call and cancel services? Does Comcast lock you into some evil contract or something? I couldn't imagine not being able to make a phone call to end a service any time I wanted.

they don't lock you in it just takes forever...they do everything to change your plan and save you money and spend forever convincing you to stay.....20 mins of that is not worth ruining your credit, though...

They will cancel your service after 2 months of unpaid bills iirc. My old roommate in trade school used to let our shit go until they shut it off and then he'd make a payment. It was all under his name so I didn't care as long as he got it situated that day or else I'd start charging him more than his 50% for rent if we had to go without internet longer than 24 hours (since I always paid my part on time then he'd go blow it on an 8ball)

No, because it will go into collections and you will be harassed by debt collectors. Just call them and tell them you are not subscribing to their services anymore.

so i have 2 months free service...

these are the answers im looking for guys!

i have a mental illness so i'd appreciate non-sarcastic answers and calling me stupid or whatever...and yes i don't care about my credit. I'm also in the process of trying to get approved for AT&T Access (the 10 buck subsidy internet service). I'm dirt poor (755 a month) and on food stamps and all that. It's a guaranteed approval pretty much-i just need to wait a little longer, hence why the 2 months is useful information.

There's a real easy way to handle this too. Tell them very politely (twice) that you've made up your mind, and that you definitely want to cancel. If after telling them that twice they continue trying to hammer you into staying, repeat after me: "Listen you stupid, worthless, motherfucker I told you twice already I want to cancel, not have your dumbass try to sell me more shit. Cancel my fucking account now or put someone who's not a worthless pile of shit on the phone that can"

That's if you haven't had your service already shut off a few times yet. After the first few times, they start cutting you off a little over a month after your first unpaid bill. Otherwise you'll get almost 3 whole months total from the time of your last actual payment (iirc).

Like others have said it's not a great idea, but you're not an idiot so you're fully capable of making your own decision on that one.

I don't know if it will affect you getting service with another provider, but if you move out of your apartment then next person that moves into that address will have to jump through hoops to prove they're not you just changing the name on the form (usually have to show a lease in person or something) but fuck em that's not your problem

Huh

You think my cable company would lower my bill if I called to cancel services? Or would they call my bluff?

People literally do this every 2 years to keep promotional prices. Im on a promotion right now and the fucking Comcast guy told me to do the same thing. Tell them you simply cannot afford to keep it. If you're already on a promotion it won't work.

If you don't want to deal with them trying to keep you, just tell them you're moving to someplace where your new roommate already has it or where they don't offer it.

I'm not on a promotion, but I'm also not with Comcast. I'm through Spectrum. (Formerly Time Warner)

If you ever re-up with them, you will have to pay whatever amount you owe them. Even if it's in 5 years. They keep that stuff.
