I am looking for a new job. A former co-worker contacted me last week hearing I was looking. I said yes, I have a refinance I am wrapping up and a vacation I am going on, then I will probably start looking.

She told me about a job she knew of I would be a great fit for. I told her I already knew about it and would apply if a few of the juicier prospects fell through.

She told the recruiter about me and he has been blowing me up for the last 4 days.

It's an OK job but was something of a safety. Now she fucking blew that for me because it's obvious to the recruiter I am only kind of interested. You can only make one first impression and all that, but I don't want to be be all eager since I don't want to interview for it until I know what else is out there for me.

She didn't mean it. It's your fault for not explaining your whole situation to her.

Honestly, there are times people help me when I didn't ask for it, and it isn't always what I wanted them to do...

But in this case, you sound like a fucking prick. There's no guarantee that job will be available by the time you decide you may want it. Sorry that the world doesn't wait till you decide to get off your ass. She was making sure you had the best chance at getting it.

You don't have to take the job if you don't want, but you're in the wrong if you think at least in terms of that specific job opportunity she didn't have your back.

What? How am I a prick? Obviously there is no guarantee the job wouldn't be around by the time I am ready to apply to it. It's like a 3rd choice job.

It is no surprise so many CEmen can't get jobs. Choosing how you approach recruiters, how enthusiastic you are and all that is important. I had told her I knew about the job and would apply later if other stuff fell through. She knew I was aware of the job and that I didn't want to apply yet but gave my name and contact info out.

I know she was trying to help but she did something that was clear I did not want her to do based on the hour long discussion we had before she did it.
