And in markets where perfect competition doesn't naturally arise (commonly due to economies of scale, among other forces), government-regulated internet service provision can help close the information gap. Big telecom companies are also given privileged access to public rights-of-way to build their network infrastructure. I can see the logic in it honestly. It's very important in this day and age. Without it, you're at a massive disadvantage.
