i have no idea what i need to play to be up to speed for the new game, so any help is appreciated. as far as i can tell they put out two hd remasters on the ps4?

just play them in release order. The HD rematsters should cover everything storywise, but Days and re: Coded aren't playable on them; they just have a compilation of the cutscenes.

so the best way to experience the story is to get the i.5 ii.5 remix disc, play all the games on that, then get the other hd remaster i don't remember the name of, play the game on that and then watch cutscenes for the other two? or are they not in release order on the remakes?

so none of the other games matter? I'd read some people talking about the series saying anyone going 1 to 2 to 3 would be incredibly confused because a lot of important shit happens in the in between stuff?

Do this and you'll be lost on a lot of story elements. Dream Drop Distance is a sequel to 2 and sets up 3, for example.

But yeah, get the compilation remaster for PS4 as well as the 2.8 compilation that has the prologue to 3 and play/watch everything in release order.

Play CoM is you want but you can understand the series without it. DDD potentially has some important stuff, I haven't finished it yet.

Like I said, play the games/watch the cutscenes in release order. That will involve jumping around the collections, since those are organized by the timeline, not release order.

ok, so i will need to buy both collections right away to get the story the correct way? I was hoping to buy and finish one and trade it back in for the other :(

If you want to do that, then you can just look up the cutscenes for Days and coded online when the time comes.
