that doesn't look like "a hit list," it looks like... well, a list of key figures to pay attention to. which is basically what the last one literally says is why he's on the list. and the document itself is literally titled "Key Figures."

yeah, it makes sense that you'd say the mayor, vice mayor, and chief of police as "Key Figures" in a rally you're doing and labeling them as such on a document. calling bullshit on that one, sounds more like twitter not actually reading what's there.

I don't know anybody who keeps papers under a seat, where they could potentially slide out and get stepped on, get dirty, etc. That's usually a glovebox kind of thing.

But under the seat is a place people do keep guns.

So I guess even if keeping a gun there is rare, keeping papers there seems even rarer to me.

Important papers like title/insurance/etc. that you may need to be able to get to easily? You really think people are going to go "Nah, I have too many other less important papers in my glove box. I'll just toss these on the floor?"

Anyway you don't point a gun at someone unless you're okay with them being dead so the cop still probably deserves to be fired.

Also, this just seems kinda insane.

Should he have kept his gun on him for that long? Absolutely not. But if there's even a chance somebody could be reaching for a weapon, a cop absolutely should point their gun at them until they hold their hands up/whatever. Otherwise, if somebody actually is reaching for a gun, you're now saying them and the cop should have an old-western draw to see who can raise theirs quickest.

It sounds like he held the gun on him for too long and had a better way to deal with it so he could've lowered the gun sooner, but saying a cop shouldn't point a gun at somebody who is reaching for something unknown at all is just silly.

Nah, you shouldn't keep those papers under the seat. Nor should you expect to be able to reach under there without first telling the cop that it is where you keep your papers (for some reason).

But idk why the cop couldn't just get him to show his hands and exit the vehicle in less than 10 minutes.

This just seems like another sign that tensions are too high right now.

i haven't seen the document yet but i assume this came from that same 27 page thing, right? the same one where they basically say they don't want to really start fights but are prepared to defend themselves if anything goes violent (and called Stickman more or less a shit for being prone to this)? in it they reference Berkeley directly - in those riots the mayor is the one who told police to stand down. the same happened in Baltimore two years ago. you can see it in other instances too but it's a fairly consistent trend where police are told by those higher up, highest being the mayor, to not do anything. in this situation they end up being forced to defend themselves. chief of police and vice mayor would follow that. they are, as the first picture literally has written, key figures of the city and relevant to whether it stays a rally/protest or devolves into a riot.

this doesn't even make sense as a hit list, none of them are going to be protesting. it's the top three admin who can control the police force. i mean if you say it's insulting to include race/ethnicity in the bios sure, but you're missing what it actually is. by a lot.

For context, they had spent a long time digging through the car until they found the papers. I don't know where they actually found them but he probably was just putting something back that he pulled out from under the seat during the search. He mentions a screwdriver.

And like I said, I mainly point this case out as an alternative to what Castille's murderer did. Yeah it's paranoid but I'm not saying it's the worst thing if it prevents ANYONE from getting shot.

Okay but you need to understand that your anecdotal experience is not representative of the vast majority with regard to paper placement.

Nor is your stance on guns applicable in a world where guns exist and are legal.

I would prefer stricter requirements on gun registration and ownership, sure. But within the framework of the actual world we are actually living in that hasn't happened yet. And so you can't judge a cops actions but your hypothetical standards. If he were in a situation where he could not safely proceed before back up arrived then that's all there is to it.

honestly i don't think there's any way to justify what castille's killer did, the cam on that showed a pretty clear case of recklessness and negligence. seemed like an obvious case of manslaughter but he got off. reading the police statement here... doesn't seem like there's anything wrong done?

the biggest issue seems to be a policy one where backup couldn't get there. he's outside the direct county he works in and it's rush hour. ideally he'd be able to ask the local cops for help there. don't know how Cali is but that seems like something that could be fixed by just having a different channel/told to talk to a different one. nine minutes is too long so i assume some changes will be made there to help cut that down, even if it's unofficially telling your guys to not do speeding tickets during rush hour outside your county.

I think what he's saying is that he thinks it's a necessary step in changing the current gun climate.

For the record, I'm not sure I agree, but it's also very obvious that the police are trigger happy and I'm thinking that perhaps guns should be earned, not given. That is, police start off without a gun until they've undergone months of strict safety and policy training (as in, much stricter than it is now) and have it instilled in them that the gun is not a tool, it is a deadly weapon and a last resort.

I mean, you'd think that's what they're doing now, but the results of the training show hardcore failure in that aspect.

I'm just saying it's more likely for a gun to be underneath a passenger seat than important papers for the driver

I'm not saying the gun being there is common

Just that the common driver doesn't just toss their important papers on the floor like Kenri is suggesting is normal, much less intentionally store them underneath the passenger seat

People typically put stuff under car seats to hide them more than they do to access them easily

Again, I don't know why people put guns under their car seats. Or drugs. Or anything.

But they do, to hide them.

I'd assume those people aren't the brightest and don't think this out, yes.

And typically it's the passenger seat, so I assume that minimizes risk somewhat? I dunno.

I don't mean like an actual replacement. Twitter's transformation has been gradual, but it's a shadow of its former self. Random posts of people you don't follow get pushed up, while Twitter now 'decides' what you should be seeing. Less than 25% of what the people I follow post actually shows up on my timeline, the rest require me to manually check the feeds of everyone I follow if I wanna make sure I didn't miss anything. Twitter's active users are constantly falling, while the fake twitter followers and paid bots industry is booming.
