"for example, the forecast on the radio will say it's 75 degrees in <our city>, but my car will show that it's almost 80"

it took every ounce of strength not to laugh

Seems like a legit question to me. I don't know why my car's thermometer is always off either. Either the thermometer sucks (I mean, it's GM made) or maybe the light reflecting off the hood makes it hotter, or something. Or maybe the weatherman is off by at least five degrees every day. Or maybe the temperature really can fluctuate by five degrees from average from point to point within the city.

I don't see anything wrong with asking a question when you don't know the asnwer.

Huh? I thought the temperature gauge measures heat within the car. For example when I get off of work in from my morning shift job the temp gauge of my car when I turn it on is usually somewhere around 114 degrees.

most vehicles now come equipped with an ambient outside temperature gauge. the thermometer is typically mounted somewhere where engine/exhaust heat will have minimal effect, but it's impossible to compensate for other factors since it depends on so many variables - what color is the vehicle painted, is it in direct sunlight, etc. all that stuff isn't immediately obvious so I don't mind explaining it

what got me was he was going by the radio forecast and legitimately thought there was an issue with the car because it didn't reflect the weather man's prediction
