It was all under the umbrella of the white people, though. They had the weapons and money.

That's a true fact, according to the census of 1830.

Africans understood slavery very differently. Slaves were, of course, slaves, but nonetheless were viewed as and treated as people in most respects. The same cannot be said of Europeans vis-a-vis African slaves.
Moreover, slaving wasn't big business until the Portuguese showed up and started buying African slaves to work their colonial plantations, which, of course, was vastly easier than convincing/coercing actual Portuguese to go. Native Africans learned to fear the Europeans(a common belief seems to have been that white men were cannibals), but ultimately, in any human society, there are plenty of people who will overlook the consequences of their actions as long as it pays well.

I don't. My question wasn't meant to sound confrontational, but he said something that I have never heard even on CE so I wanted him to show me where he read it.

I recently read a book on the African experience and contextualization of the Transatlantic slave trade which referenced some first-hand accounts. Hardly the whole picture, of course, but it was interesting.

Edit: Found the actual book. Transatlantic Africa 1440-1888 by Kwasi Konadu
