Seriously, no one has provided any examples of characters that do what you said they do.

As in "It's fine that they're gay and all, but do they need to behave like a straight person would in an identical scenario?" (aka, why is THIS IN MY FAAAACE)

In 1989, a full 11 years before the first scripted/televised gay kiss on Dawson's Creek, two gay men woke up together in Thirtysomething. But they didn't touch lips, so censors were okay with that, and all that it implied, even if it caused dismay to more conservative audiences. In the warped mind of the censor, two men kissing and actually showing affection was reserved for sticky back rooms in video rental stores. But two men waking up in post-coital bliss was fun for the whole family.

Oh. Literally dumbledor (I think? Does he ever say it, or was it something Rowling said in an interview or something?)

No, Rowling said she thought of Dumbledore as gay a few years after the series was wrapped up.

That didn't happen. There was supposed to a scene introducing DD's wife in the movie adaptation of the sixth book. J.K. advised they cut it citing Albus's homosexuality as the reason, and then someone in that chain ran to the tabloids with their scoop. Nowhere in the books or movies was it mentioned that DD was gay. That's entirely stuff that happened in and around the fandom.

This reminded me of that show Chozen. The show itself was "eh" but one of the biggest reasons people complained about it was because the main character was openly gay and spent almost every episode hitting on, harrassing and fucking other men. So viewers had issues with that.
And I'm like, dude, the show came on literally right after Archer. Another character who does pretty much the exact same thing but with women.

It wasn't that he was openly gay. He acted how straight people like to think gay people act, where they're all aggro, loud, and invasive. It wasn't a show for gay people. It was a show about gay people for straight people.

I remember the complaints for that show vividly. It was less about him being openly gay and more about how he approached people. Being loud, aggro'd and invasive was his thing, yeah, but that's hardly a trait exclusive to gay people. In fact, that's also Archer to the T.

I think you're putting words in his mouth.

Most gay characters are indeed 2D (because they're just side characters and/or lazy writers), where they're either included for the sake of tokenness or their sexual orientation is the entirety of their personality. Bill is neither.

Did you forget about the crotch grabbing scene and all of the significant gossip? Eva comments on it too, explaining that she can't seduce him to save her life, but that Snake might have an in. The game does everything but literally show us Raikov's gay exploits. That doesn't mean Raikov is gay, but it does mean he's not straight.

I mean damn, Volgin sees through your Raikov disguise when he gropes you and realizes your dick is too small to be the real Raikov's. Through military fatigues, I might add. Can we appreciate how intimately familiar you need to be with someone's dick to pick that kind of information up on a faccid dick underneath someone's thick canvas clothes? Fuck, we should be speculating which one of them bottomed. Eva's comments suggest Volgin would be a total top, even a violent one because she shows us the bruises he inflicts on her. But clearly he's got a vested interest in Raikov's offerings.

It depends. Don't make a gay token character, but also, don't pull a JK Rowling and make a character gay for no reason.

So gay people need a reason to exist?

"gay characters in media should seem like real people and not caricatures"

"gay characters in media should talk about banging guys all the time and let you know they're gay"

pick a side and stick to it SJWs geez

That's not how it was revealed he was gay. She was doing a Q and A at a book signing and someone asked her if he was ever married and she replied that he was gay and had a long-time boyfriend but he never married.

That's not what either of us said or implied.

Straight people can be in your face about it but yet even now, we have straight people get in a tizzy about any gay person being on screen. And when they are, straight people want us lgbt people to walk on egg shells or somehow we're being too preachy and shoving it down your throats. You know, as though one gay kiss on camera will turn you gay the same way thousands of straight kisses on air turned us straight.

And it's not just there that the double standards end. Lesbians always actually have to be bi and end up with a guy, or else both need to be femme lesbians and used as a joke at the expense of a male character attracted to one of them. "The character needs a reason to exist" yet the womanizer character archetype is good enough a reason to have them in a sitcom and they might add depth to them later.

Inaccuracies in both of these posts.

Um, he never had a boyfriend. She said she always thought of him as gay when a little kid asked if Dumbledore ever had a girlfriend. She said she thought of him as having loved Grindelwald and then being very upset and lost when he finally accepted how bad Grindelwald actually was.

As for the comment you quoted, a director stated (after this interview) that they had intended to have Dumbledore tell Harry about a girlfriend/date he had in the 6th movie but J.K. wrote him a not saying that Dumbledore is gay.

Anyway, Dumbledore being gay may not be apparent out the gate (that's fine) but it certainly DOES fit pretty well and none of the professors except for Snape and Hagrid have any romance displayed in any of the books so I'm always annoyed when people bitch about Dumbledore being gay as if it's some left-field nonsense that is pandering or whatever. If she had commented about him having a desd wife when the kid asked, no one would have had a problem at all. It's stupid.
