Not always. The minimum monthly payment is much lower than that, but I started voluntarily dumping a ton of money into the loan in the past year to get rid of the car payment ahead of schedule.

I get paid 5 times this month, so I suspect I'll be able to pay another $2000 this month and then just finish the last $500 off the 2nd week of September.

Nice, I paid my car off last year(2012) but I couldn't resist on a mustang. So now I have a new car bill lol. Only 250 a month. Probably refinance to pay it off faster

because nobody but big cities are willing to invest in a decent public transit system. that and everything is really far apart in some areas. go to a smaller town in the Midwest and try to get around without a car - it's impossible

Mrs. DevsBro and I should be around $5k on our house, if I did my math right. It was $10k the last time we got a statement on it and we've paid off quite a bit since then.

I agree.

But I'm not gonna be the one to become unemployed to reduce traffic.

It's because of the way our country is built. Many cities you need a car to get where you need to be efficiently.

I live in Austin, TX, for example. Most places aren't really within a decent walking distance. And if I want to go to another city, the closest one is San Antonio, which is about 50 minutes to an hour away. And that's if there's not a traffic jam on I35, which is rare.
