A reflection of the social desire for engaged public intellectuals?
I think one of the reasons he's so popular (another being that he got popular as a result of the trans controversy) is that the public craves public intellectuals, but by and large intellectuals prefer to keep their heads down. --- don't worry, it ain't about me cuz i don't let misfortune bend me all outta shape ... People don't really care about real intellectuals, that just want someone who seems intellectual and is more articulate than them, about to give easy to understand taking points for them to parrot and regurgitate later so they too can seem like intellectuals.
