CF. The doctors originally told my mom I wouldn't make it to my first birthday. Then my third. Then my fifth. At 10 they told her they had no clue when I was going to die and that they were tired of guessing.

Oh, I'm definitely dying if I don't get new lungs soon....but it's cool. I have a really "eh" outlook on death. I've had a really, really long time to get used to the idea and accept it.

What's the situation with the transplant?

Lungs are notoriously hard to come by, and I'll have to have both done at the same time or the old one will destroy the new one. You have to find lungs that have had no smoke or drug damage, blood type match, have to be about the same size, etc....basically, I'll have to be lucky enough for a family to pull the plug on someone who matches me and is also close enough that the lungs can get to me before they are ruined, which isn't long. Either way, someone is having a bad day.

I've had a good life. Had plenty of different jobs while I could. Saw a lot of the states. Got married and had a kid (though he isn't biologically mine), I love them both more than I could believe. When it happens it happens.

Just aches and pains like an old person. Mostly joints and muscle pains. It won't be a quick death most likely. I will be in the hospital on breathing machines or something similar maybe. I haven't really decided how long I'm willing to be hooked up before I just give up. For the longest time it was just me so I didn't care if I lived. Now I have a 5 year old so I'm a little more willing to take a chance with the breathing machines hoping for that last minute miracle.

i don't know if this even means anything by some random internet stranger or not, but tbh you're pretty cool guy. I admire you how you are able to deal with all that, and i will always remember you.

I don't think I'd have a child if I didn't know how long I'd live but I'm glad you know what it's like to have a family.

It's a shame you won't live, but then again, who does?

I hope you can enjoy the time you have left. And don't count yourself out, you've made it way farther than they ever thought, you can keep going :)

Technically. It's almost guaranteed to play a major role in whatever kills me, as well as likely to have me not get proper care from first responders and hospital staff. So.

99% of men with CF are sterile. I happen to meet and start dating the woman who would become my wife when she was a week pregnant. She didn't know it at the time because she had that birth control shot thing, but it had failed. When she found out she was pregnant she told me, and we had already been dating for months. She told the biological father and he didn't care. She told me that she understood if I didn't want to continue dating....but, fuck man, she wanted to get serious with me and I was bringing WAY more shit to the table than a baby, plus I loved her. So we stayed together and chose a name and I became a father when Logan was born. So, he wasn't planned but he wasn't unwanted.
